Journeys: Three Quilters Gallery Talk & Reception
Friday, February 17th, 3 - 5 p.m.
The National Quilt Museum will host a special gallery talk and reception featuring nationally recognized quilting teachers and historians Jerry Roy and Bettina Havig. The two, along with Chuck McManis, will be discussing the work of Doreen Speckmann, Diane Gaudynski, and Dorris McManis. The Museum is currently exhibiting Quilt Journey: Three Quilters, which features the work of these three internationally recognized quilt artists. The event is free with admission to the gallery.Gerald Roy is an art teacher, painter, quilt maker, designer, antique dealer, quilt collector, historian and certified quilt appraiser. Bettina Havig is an author, quiltmaker, teacher, lecturer, judge, quilt historian, appraiser and consultant. Free with admission to gallery.

Learn machine applique using an easy raw edge fusible technique. This project features folk art style applique blocks inspired by 19th century quilts. Learn the technique of perfect points to smooth curves. Focus on quality workmanship and achieve beautiful results.

Winners and finalists from our annual contest challenging quiltmakers to create original quilts based on a classic block pattern. See the innovative, imaginative new quilts alongside antique baskets quilts.

Workshop Carol Taylor - Improvisational Scrap Quilt
April 30 - May 4
Explore simple piecing techniques and great ways of creating patchwork designs. Learn to play with color and design without anxiety, and use all of those leftover scraps you've been saving. Learn fast and easy ways to free you up and make you more creative.

Silent Auction
Wednesday 10 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. FREE
The museum's Silent Quilt Auction will be held on Wednesday and Friday from 10:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. Located in the 1st Floor Convention Center hallway, bid on quilts, fabric, books, notions and more. We will offer the popular "Buy it Now" option again this year.

George & Virginia Siciliano Demonstrations - FREE

Meet George and Virginia Siciliano as they demonstrate their techniques throughout the week. Funny and talented, you can learn from their free demos. Their patterns and seam allowance guide will be available for sale in the Museum's gift shop.

"This Guy Must Be Nuts! George Siciliano Lecture" - $15
Wednesday, 7:00 p.m.
Follow George as he tells the funny stories that led him into the world of quilting. The lecture is a trunk show of his quilts starting with his first quilt through to his latest. You''ll be amused and inspired hearing his journey into quilting. (NQM Classroom)

 

Auction Preview Free
Thursday, 9:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.
Convention Center
Check out the live auction items in the lobby of the Convention Center. Enjoy an optional wine tasting with Purple Toad Winery (cash bar). Enjoy an optional hot buffet style meal on Thursday night for participants wishing to eat before the live auction. You can pre-purchase your $10 Meal Ticket, or purchase onsite at the event.

Live Auction Benefit

Quilts, quilts and more quilts! The museum's Live Auction is Thursday from 6:00 - 8:00 pm. This is your opportunity to bid on beautiful quilts as well as a wide range of other sewing and quilting items. It is the premier event to find the perfect quilt for any location and any occasion!

Back by popular demand, the Museum will hold its second annual Fabulous Fabric Flurry. Just $10 gets you all the fabric you can fit into your "Flurry Bag"… and some shoppers managed to stuff in quite a bit! Come early for the best selection. Fast and fun, the fabric goes quickly!

A new event this year, the Museum is introducing a "Meet the Artist & Signing Event." Meet some of your favorite authors and artists, and get your book or items signed! The early lineup includes: prolific writer and author Ann Hazelwood signing her new novel. Don't miss artist Susan K. Edwards, Wildhair Studios, as she introduces her 2012 collection. Get your humorous "Quilt T-Shirts" signed. Western Kentucky artist, Bill Ford, will demonstrate his hand painted quilt-themed aprons. Be sure to get yours personalized!

The finalists of New Quilts from an Old Favorite 2012: Baskets will be signing the contest and exhibit book in the museum's gallery on Friday from 10 a.m. - noon. New Quilts from an Old Favorite is the museum's annual international contest challenging quilters to put a new spin on a traditional block.
